She sat me down and attended to my needs while giving me the privacy she knew I needed. She cared for me as if I were her only patient.
I had just come out of surgery and was vomiting, unable to stand on my own. My previous nurse was rushing me, trying to get me to complete all the discharge protocols the same day as my surgery. I told her I knew I couldn’t do it. I was so weak I couldn't even keep my head up, and I was having an allergic reaction to the anesthesia.
When Jennifer came in as my night nurse, she immediately recognized that I needed anti-nausea medication and quickly asked the doctor for it. Within minutes of taking the medication, I felt ten times better. She truly listened when I told her I wasn’t well enough to go home. I live two hours from the hospital, and I knew I wouldn’t be able to make the drive without stopping to vomit or struggling to breathe.
Jennifer heard my husband’s concerns, and with the doctor’s authorization, I was allowed to stay in the hospital overnight. She checked on me more attentively than any nurse ever has. She let my husband rest and kindly unhooked me from the various machines every time I needed to use the bathroom. She sat me down and attended to my needs while giving me the privacy she knew I needed. She cared for me as if I were her only patient.
She listened to me and treated me with such respect and tenderness, even while performing difficult tasks like helping me in and out of bed. I used the bathroom at least six times in six hours. I needed her help every single time. I felt terrible for constantly calling on her, but each time, she treated me as if it were the first—with calmness, grace, and professionalism.
Despite being a high-needs patient due to my pain and frequent urination, she never once made me feel like a burden. She always addressed me respectfully with a warm "Yes, ma’am." I was incredibly impressed not only by her professionalism but also by her humility and dedication to service.
Jennifer is the epitome of what a nurse should be. I truly appreciated her care, even in such a difficult situation.
