Rachel Kothe is an excellent nurse and a valuable asset to our 4th-floor team. She is always ready and willing to intervene in any situation. She is knowledgeable and observant, and notices when patients have changes in their conditions. Recently, Rachel went to the Kroger in Atoka. She noticed a woman sitting on one of the electronic carts. She was pale and appeared ill, holding her head in her hands. Rachel approached the woman and inquired about how she was feeling and if she was ok. The woman replied, “I feel really sick.” Rachel asked if she was diabetic, and she said yes. Rachel immediately went into the store and grabbed a candy bar, telling the attendant that there was a medical emergency out front. After eating a few bites of the candy bar, it was obvious that the woman was feeling better. Her color improved, and she perked up. Rachel asked how she was feeling. The woman replied, “That she felt much better,” and thanked Rachel. Rachel then took the moment to educate the woman on the importance of managing her diabetes- eating small meals throughout the day and carrying candy with her at all times. Rachel left the rest of the candy bar with the woman and was relieved that she was in the right place at the right time to assist her.
