During my first-ever hospitalization for a small bowel obstruction, I found myself overwhelmed with confusion and emotion. It was a difficult and frightening time. Despite it being a particularly busy day on the unit, when I rang the call light, Tim came to my room and didn’t just provide care—he sat with me, listened, and helped me navigate the anxiety and fear I was feeling. Tim took the time to explain my condition and the treatment plan in a way I could truly understand. He was calm, compassionate, and present; qualities that made an incredible difference during a moment when I felt so vulnerable. His encouragement and support were more than comforting; they made me feel truly seen and cared for. Tim embodied the spirit of the “Love Me” service standard, and I will never forget how he made me feel—like I mattered. In the chaos of a busy unit, he made time for human connection.
