Maj Witten embodies the compassion, dedication, and extraordinary skill that define the essence of nursing.
I am writing to enthusiastically nominate Maj. Meghan Witten, a Nurse Practitioner in our Mental Health Clinic. Maj Witten embodies the compassion, dedication, and extraordinary skill that define the essence of nursing. Her impact on both her patients and her colleagues is quiet in action but felt by all. She is a constant source of support and guidance for not only her patients, but also providers and technicians. Her clinical expertise is evident in her proactive approach to patient care and her dedication to optimizing processes within the clinic. She consistently implements best practices, streamlines workflows, and enhances compliance for all personnel, all with the goal of improving patient outcomes and access to care. Her skills and insights have improved not only her practice but the overall performance of the department.
Maj Witten's compassion truly shines through in her role as a supervisor and mentor. She prioritizes the well-being of her team, going above and beyond to provide support and ensure a safe and supportive work environment. This was particularly evident during the tragic loss of one of our patients to suicide. Maj Witten immediately stepped in to offer unwavering support to the provider and other staff affected, providing the time and resources to cope with the situation both professionally and personally. Her empathy was profound, and she fostered an environment of trust and understanding, focusing on collaborative solutions and addressing potential gaps in care management without any hint of blame or judgment. This allowed the team to process the event and contribute to improving the system of care.
Beyond her clinical and supervisory duties, Maj Witten has taken on the responsibility of being the sole prescribing provider since last August. She readily accepts walk-in appointments, addresses complex patient cases, and always goes the extra mile to ensure that patients receive the care they need. Her patients consistently commend her for her empathy, expertise, and dedication.
Maj Witten's dedication, compassion, and unwavering commitment to her patients and her team make her an exceptional nurse and a truly deserving candidate for the DAISY Award. Her impact on the lives of both patients and colleagues is profound and enduring. She is a shining example of what it means to be a DAISY Nurse.
