Elizabeth leads by example and nurtures professional growth in others.
Elizabeth exemplifies these attributes every day, in everything she does. She is committed to lifelong learning, and this is evident in how she attends conferences and brings back new, exciting information to share with other CPSs. Elizabeth leads by example and nurtures professional growth in others. For example, she had a nurse reach out to her for a letter of recommendation. Rather than simply write the letter, she made time to meet with the nurse and discovered the nurse was more interested in research and evidence-based practice than the NP program she had applied for. Elizabeth mentored this young nurse and steered her towards programs that were more in line with her interests. She also assisted this nurse with an innovation project, even though that nurse had moved on from 3 B. I have had the opportunity several times to hear Elizabeth give others constructive feedback. She does this in such a caring way that it never feels harsh, but always feels like coaching. You can tell Elizabeth cares about growing people and helping them discover their strengths. When we are in meetings, I have heard Elizabeth present ideas and feedback in a clear, concise manner. She is knowledgeable about evidence-based practices, and she reads journals and stays up-to-date on current literature and best practices. She shares these ideas during the CAUTI/CLABSI Committee and the Procedure Review Committee. Elizabeth is a great mentor. She precepted me, and I can honestly say that she is an effective teacher. She is so supportive and always takes the time to provide me with feedback and helps me brainstorm. In fact, seeing her function in her role has inspired me to return to school to get the same degree Elizabeth has! It's a pleasure working with her, and she is a great asset to our team and to NM. I hope to be half the CPS she is someday.
