I entered Martin County CC for a quadruple bypass surgery. Never did I expect one person to impact my life above all others during my stay in the hospital. However, I do praise all others on the medical staff and team who were in the operating room. Considering the excellent care I received from everyone, the one caregiver who is so deserving of this Award is Angie McDonald. I credit her for giving me the ability to put my fears aside and trust the recovery process. She was the nurse who was there when I first opened my eyes in the CVICU. She seemed to always be there to bring comfort and peace of mind to me. Her level of care, understanding, knowledge, and compassion helped me more than words can say. She was a nurse sent by God to help me recover. As I mentioned before, I had surgery for a quad bypass. Things went well until I developed blood clots around my heart.  I needed to come in for surgery. Another surgery brought on feelings of fear and uncertainty about what my outcome for the future would be. With Angie’s soft voice and her ability to put my mind at ease, I was able to enter my second surgery with positive thoughts. Surgery went well, and several days later, I was moved to the cardiac floor. I was thrilled to be moving in the right direction, finally! The only downside was that I was leaving Angie. She assured me she would stop in and check on me from time to time. Maybe this is typical for a CVICU nurse to follow up on their patients, I'm not sure. I do wish for all people needing that special nurse to have the same experience as I had. Moving on, I need a 3rd procedure before I can be discharged. My heart was out of sinus rhythm, therefore could not improve on walking without shortness of breath and feeling faint. A Cardiac Conversion was the procedure to correct my problem and get me on the right path. It has been 8 months since all my procedures, and I'm living my best life and a physically active one: golf, pickleball, biking, and walking. I'm very thankful to all the medical staff at CCMH. But above all, the one nurse in my opinion who had earned the right to receive and be honored with this DAISY Award is Angie McDonald. I appreciate the time you took to read my story.
