The day I was discharged, Rolanda wheeled me down to meet my ride, and she included a cart of stuff I had been given and put it in the trunk.
Rolanda is the best nurse I have met at this VA. I had her as my nurse the night of my hip surgery. First and foremost, I want to say how impressed I was with her respect for the veterans and her co-workers. I knew she was committed to me when she would stand and talk with me until I was done talking or until my questions had been answered. Also, she talked to me like she would talk to a friend, not like a nurse to a patient.
The day I was discharged, Rolanda wheeled me down to meet my ride, and she included a cart of stuff I had been given and put it in the trunk. This was particularly nice because I had just had hip surgery, and my mother-in-law is 82.
Integrity: The nurse demonstrates integrity by being genuine in her interactions with patients, treating me with honesty and transparency.
Commitment: The nurse's willingness to spend time answering questions and providing support showcases her commitment to patient care. She prioritizes my needs and well-being, illustrating her dedication to my recovery.
Advocacy: By taking the time to ensure I felt comfortable and understood, Rolanda advocated for my rights and needs, creating an environment where I felt valued.
Respect: The nurse respects veterans and her coworkers, reflecting the value of respect that is fundamental to the VA’s mission, as it recognizes the dignity of those in her care.
Excellence: The effort the nurse put into managing my discharge—personally wheeling me down and ensuring my belongings were taken care of—demonstrates a commitment to excellence in her nursing practice.
