She took the time to connect with me and reassure me that I would be OK.
I am writing this to recognize Juliana for the incredible care and compassion she showed me during my time at UMass. When I was scared, uncomfortable, and in a lot of pain, Juliana was the person who made me feel safe. She took the time to connect with me and reassure me that I would be OK. This was something I desperately needed. On my last night there, I had to get an MRI, and the hospital planned to transfer me to a different floor. I was devastated to leave the nurses I had gotten to know, especially Juliana. I started crying, and she sat with me, hugged me, and comforted me, saying she didn’t want me to leave either. She went above and beyond, reaching out to the people so that I could stay under her care. This meant everything to me. I didn’t have to explain my injuries all over again, and I could stay with someone who truly understood me.
That night, she washed and braided my hair. She brought me a doughnut and kept reassuring me that I would heal and be strong the next morning. We found out I was being discharged, which was bittersweet. Saying goodbye to Juliana was emotional for both of us. But she made sure to end her shift with smiles, hugs, and a heartfelt goodbye. I’ve never had such a positive experience at a hospital in my life. Juliana changed my entire perspective. She made it hard to leave, and I truly wish she could be by my side for every step of my recovery. She is in the perfect place doing what she was meant to do, and I couldn’t leave without letting someone know how special she is.
