If it weren’t for Alexis’s quick thinking, that patient would have continued to be in a terrible amount of pain.
It is with great pride and heartfelt admiration that I write to recommend Alexis Bolden for the DAISY Award. She exemplifies what it means to be an extraordinary nurse, consistently going above and beyond to provide compassionate, skillful, and patient-centered care.
I have had the privilege of working alongside Alexis for 2 years on the Orthopedics and Surgical Unit. From the very beginning, she demonstrated a unique blend of clinical excellence, emotional intelligence, and unwavering dedication to patients and their families. One example that stands out occurred when a post-operative total Knee Orthopedic patient was in excruciating pain, and the on-call physicians were acting seemingly unconcerned. Alexis took the initiative and called the Attending Physician to come to the patient’s bedside for an evaluation. Luckily, Alexis acted upon her instincts because the patient had Compartment Syndrome and had to be taken back to the Operating Room. If it weren’t for Alexis’s quick thinking, that patient would have continued to be in a terrible amount of pain. It wasn’t just what Alexis did—it was how she did it: with grace, calm, and a sense of deep compassion that brought peace to a very difficult moment.
Patients frequently praise Alexis for her gentle bedside manner, clear communication, ability to listen without judgment, and ability to advocate for them. She treats every individual not just as a patient, but as a whole person—with dignity, respect, and empathy. In a profession where burnout and emotional fatigue are common, Alexis remains a source of inspiration to her colleagues. She is a Charge Nurse, a Preceptor, a team player, and a positive force on her unit. In every way, Alexis embodies the spirit and values the DAISY Award celebrates.
