We knew he was taken care of when he was with Alma.
After 5 long years of fighting leukemia, my dad is coming to the end of his fight. Alma has been by his side from the very beginning. He was first diagnosed right before COVID, and later admitted during COVID for 10 weeks. During these ten weeks, Alma and my dad immediately formed a strong bond. The care she showed him from the start was the foundation for a 5-year friendship. Alma gave him his first dose of chemo, taught my mom how to flush his line, walked around the hospital with him, knew what to order for him for every meal, and knew how he was as a human in order to advocate for him in the future. As my dad has entered hospice, Alma has still continued to show up in ways no other nurse has. Visiting him, talking to him, caring for him, and caring for us - his family. This woman allowed us to breathe. We knew he was taken care of when he was with Alma. Alma has been such an angel sent to us, and we truly don’t believe we would have made it this far without her care and compassion for our family and for our father.
