He was constantly there to answer our questions and help us understand and coordinate our meetings with doctors who appear and disappear randomly for very short periods of time.
My husband, who has Multiple Myeloma, developed an infection that was very painful in his knee and foot. Because of this preexisting condition, we had heightened anxiety, and to be honest, being in a hospital feels very confining and scary. Anyway. From our very initial meeting with Fabian, it was clear that Fabian wants to learn about his patients as people, not just clients, in his ward. The three of us constantly had personal conversations, which made us, especially me, feel his genuine interest in us. My husband’s health went beyond just the professional and clinical relationship of nurse to patient. He was constantly there to answer our questions and help us understand and coordinate our meetings with doctors who appear and disappear randomly for very short periods of time.
Fabian was instrumental in helping us navigate the typical frustrations of hospital life, where patients often do not receive or understand their test results regarding their medical status. Finally, he was a key player in helping my husband get released from the hospital on Saturday night rather than staying for another day. In his authentic nurse persona, we could tell Fabian was worried that perhaps my husband wasn’t ready to be home. If I could, I would have texted him and reassured him that my husband has been feeling much better and is way more mobile since returning home. Fabian is a caring and empathic person/nurse. We were so fortunate to have had him for the bulk of our stay at Rush.
