My brother was admitted to the hospital with a rare and aggressive cancer one week before we met Nurse Sam. After a horrible 12 hours in the CCU with my brother, Nurse Sam came into the morning shift ready to kick butt and take names. She organized every aspect of our care with extreme efficiency. She interfaced flawlessly not only with every doctor involved in his care but with every member of our family. Her confidence was inspiring and made us feel as though someone was really, truly invested in our brother's care. She was steady, reassuring, and comforting all at once. She kept us informed at all times and ensured that we had access to all the necessary resources. It was evident even within five minutes of meeting her that she was going to fight for my brother as hard as we were, and she clearly puts absolutely all of herself into her work.
