I would like to nominate Samantha for the DAISY Award for going above and beyond for a patient who had a prolonged/complicated recovery post-open-heart surgery. This patient experienced several complications that extended his stay and left him discouraged and emotionally depleted. Over time, the patient's long hair became matted and caused physical discomfort to the patient. This nurse recognized this and drew on her previous experiences as a barber to restore the patient's sense of self. With his consent, she gave him a full makeover using clippers and scissors! She took the time to style the haircut to the patient's preference and spent an extended period caring for and treating her patient. Afterwards, the patient let out the biggest smile he had not had since his surgery after 40 days. Samantha is the best nurse ever!
