Due to my healing, I am unable to see my daughter every day like most mothers get to, but Donita has made sure that every visit with my daughter is special and has helped me bond with her in a way that I couldn’t for the first two months of her life.
I am nominating Donita Beach for the DAISY Award. Donita was an amazing nurse to my daughter, who was born 16 weeks early at 24 weeks of gestation. Two days after I delivered my daughter, I went into sepsis, and emergency surgery was performed on me, resulting in the removal of a major organ. I didn’t get to meet my daughter for a month after surgery, and I only saw her twice during the time I was in the hospital and rehabilitation due to my injuries.

There are not enough words to express my gratitude to Donita during this time. As a first-time mother, it gave me great comfort to know that my daughter was given the best care and love while I was unable to be there for her. She was a surrogate mom to my daughter when I couldn’t be there. She was only 1 lb 2 oz at birth, and thanks to Donita's exceptional care, I am proud to say she's now 6 lbs and has had relatively few health problems since then.

Due to my healing, I am unable to see my daughter every day like most mothers get to, but Donita has made sure that every visit with my daughter is special and has helped me bond with her in a way that I couldn’t for the first two months of her life.

She ensured I was connected to the NicView camera as soon as possible, allowing me to see my daughter daily, even though I couldn’t be physically there with her. She surprised me the first time I held my daughter in my arms, and she has gone above and beyond every single day that my baby girl has been in her care. My daughter has been in the NICU for over three months now and will likely still be there when four months have passed.

There are many moments when I reflect on what I lost and what I couldn’t do for my daughter. Donita has always helped and reminded me that what’s truly important is not what I’ve lost, but the beautiful baby girl I gained. Donita has not only cared for my daughter during this time, but she has also cared for me. Caring for my daughter helped my mental health. Through what has been the most traumatic experience of my life, she has eased my mind because I know that my daughter is in capable, kind, and loving hands with her.
