My 84-year-old mom came in from the emergency room with a severe COPD flare-up from the flu and RSV. My mother hates hospitals, generally wants to leave immediately, and can be rough on nurses. Ashley has been her day nurse in the ICU for almost all of her stay, and she is what all nurses should be modeled after. She is compassionate but firm with a very difficult patient. She guided my mom on what needs to be done for her to get better by clearly explaining the expectations. Ashley was very attentive to her hygiene needs and quickly evaluated what my mom was capable of without pushing her beyond her limits. The IV area was done in haste at the ICU, and she replaced it beautifully and without pain. She covered her when she was cold and uncovered her when she was warm.

Most importantly, she identified when my mom was aspirating on her pills and grabbed the suction machine and pulled the pill out immediately, and ordered the swallowing test to discern whether she was capable of swallowing pills. I know this is probably proper protocol but I can assure you not every nurse may wait around to assure the pills are consumed fully.
I can't say enough good things about Ashley and her abilities, and I just feel we got lucky to have had my mom under her care.
