Haley Black will forever be a name in our family that will hold the meaning of a true and humble caregiver. Haley has already been mentioned with the collection of many other nurses in the MICU that cared for C; however, Haley deserves her very own recognition for going above and beyond to provide the highest standard of care, met with an abundance of love and compassion. To us, Haley treated C, my mom, as if she were her own mom, instantly providing warmth and peace of mind while attending to her every need medically. Haley personally bathed my mom the old-fashioned way, carefully and thoughtfully making sure she felt as comfortable and as herself as possible. This was a practice that took time, attention, and care, and Haley did it with patience and nurture, telling her she deserved to feel refreshed and clean. What may seem like such a simple act of care helped my mom feel more like herself. This extra little pampering was truly so kind. My mom's face would light up every time Haley walked into the room to check on her; she just adored her. Moreover, Haley returned to check in on her even when she was no longer the nurse caring for her, engaging in conversation and offering words of support and love. There is no doubt, Haley has been called to serve in this extraordinary way, and she represents what it means to be a "nurse" in every aspect of the word. Haley's impact was so grand, my mom even mentioned her in her final hours, saying, "Tell Haley to continue to take good care of that sweet B and enjoy every moment and thank her again for me." In that short time, Haley became like family. My mom was a selfless nurturer herself and couldn't help but get to know people and hear sweet stories of their families. Haley is undoubtedly a beautiful soul doing incredible things at this hospital for the patients and their families. She is humble, but her gifts are abundant. Our family gives her the highest recognition and praise we can by continuing to remember her grace and kindness, and keeping her and her family in prayer and blessings.

In addition, my father and I visited the MICU to drop off a small token of thanks to all the nurses and specifically requested to meet with Haley for this reason. We know she works limited days, but she is making a SIGNIFICANT impact on the lives she encounters each and every shift. As we thanked her once again, she stood with such poise and the modesty of a true caregiver at heart. She went above and beyond once more, personally locating the names of each nurse that cared for my mom, so that we could acknowledge every one of them right along with her. She is a selfless leader and must also be absolutely amazing to work with.
