Juan wanted all who cared for Kasey to have as much information about the daily care of K.
Our son, K, was admitted for severe lung/breathing issues. He passed all steps for a lung transplant. Unfortunately, he contracted COVID. He lost his chance for a transplant. As his body began to worsen, K had anxiety and panic attacks. This affected the heart rate, which went extremely high, and the blood pressure went down. Things got worse: blood infection, poor circulation of blood, and more difficulty breathing. He was put on ECMO and later on a ventilator. We were at a point where we were unsure what to do next. Doctors and nurses worked diligently and pursued numerous objectives. The nurse with whom our family connected on a deep level of respect and love was Juan Serrato.

He never gave up on K. Juan could calm K when he had an anxiety attack. We believed K recognized Juan’s voice. Juan knew what to do, what to say, and when to tell us to let K rest. Juan did that so respectfully to us. Juan would read and try different meds that might work better than others. One very important thing Juan did was to inform the night nurses about his activities during the day. Juan wanted all who cared for Kasey to have as much information about the daily care of K.

Our family has so much respect for Juan. He is intelligent, a hard worker who knows his job and does it well. He reached out to the family and asked what he could do for us. He never forgot to give us daily hugs at the end of the day. He would tell us to go home, eat well and rest well. We felt confident that Kasey was in great hands. This experience has had such an impact on our lives. Juan made a great impact on our lives. We will never forget Juan because he is a hard worker, a go-getter, and a loving, respectful man.
