She was busy but still took the time to work with and initiate conversation with the pharmacist, my resident doctor, and another doctor to find an alternative medicine.
While at the emergency room, I was fortunate enough and lucky to have the best nurse I have ever had for emergency room care or any care. Nurse Lauren W is the type of nurse that we need more of. Her compassion, communication skills, and care were amazing. I wish I could have selected ”all of the above” for core value. Not only did Nurse Lauren communicate with me about my treatment, as well as answer all the questions that I had, but she also treated me like a human. Not once did she become or seem annoyed, frustrated, or irritated, or make me feel like a bother or burden. I know it should be normal, but sadly, it isn’t. She was willing to have a normal conversation with my husband and me during the visit, which helped tremendously as someone who hates hospitals. She also kept checking up, asking if I needed anything throughout my stay, which I have rarely experienced. She stayed calm, compassionate, and went out of her way to help me several times. She was busy but still took the time to work with and initiate conversation with the pharmacist, my resident doctor, and another doctor to find an alternative medicine. I had previously verbalized to Dr G that I had difficulty swallowing large pills when he mentioned prescribing antibiotics, and still prescribed Flagyl. I mentioned to Nurse Lauren that I would have trouble with the Flagyl, and she went out of her way and took time to help find an alternative liquid solution for me to take instead. She was willing to answer all my questions and reassured me that my PID diagnosis was not gross and disgusting, as I had thought due to previous statements. She was also willing to talk to my physician and get clarification, as he had confused us with some of his statements regarding my course of treatment. She also made me feel like I wasn’t dumb for not understanding the physician, as I had zero clue what he was talking about. She was the only one to let me know about a change in medication that was previously discussed and took the time to make sure I knew my over-the-counter dosages. If it hadn’t been for Nurse Lauren and the ultrasound technician, I would have taken a mental note to avoid UF Health North as a hospital for the future. I really appreciate Nurse Lauren for not only calming me down, making sure I was comfortable, making a horrible night better, but for treating me like a person, not just a number, a problem, or a burden. She truly made that night a better night and a better experience than I ever could have expected from a hospital. I rarely go out of my way to write any reviews and have never nominated a nurse, but since that night felt like she needed to be nominated for a DAISY, since she didn’t have to go out of her way or be nice, however, she did, and I truly appreciate that. If more or all nurses were like her, the world would truly be a better place, and the medical field would be so much better. Thank you to Nurse Lauren for being amazing and making my night better.
