So, I couldn’t give Joe an easy night, as I was hoping to, but things could’ve gotten a lot worse for me if it wasn’t for having such a dedicated, professional, and caring nurse.
I came to the ER with chest and back pain. I received excellent care from the nurses and doctors there. I was then transferred. Joe came in, introduced himself, and began my admission. He quickly put me at ease through his kind manner and professionalism. You see, as a retired oncology nurse and unit director at this very hospital, I am quite judgmental about nursing care, and I have to say that Joe exceeded my expectations.

Soon after my admission, my blood pressure dropped. You might say I had everyone’s attention with how low it was. Joe was exceptional. He not only performed everything necessary to keep me stable, putting me in the Trendelenburg position, calling the doctor, starting a bolus, and administering medication, but he remained calm throughout. He explained what was happening, outlined the plan of care, and described the reasons for each medication he administered. In addition to all of that, he was genuinely concerned that I was tolerating the Trendelenburg position comfortably.

Well, that wasn’t enough; I just had to add more to his night. The team had to prepare me for a cardiac cath. Upon my return, Joe kept me informed and was so concerned about disturbing me as he checked my blood pressure every 15 minutes and monitored my dressing per protocol.

All went well, thanks to a very attentive nurse. The next day, I asked my nurse if I would have Joe again that night. To my surprise, she said, “Joe floated here from the CDA.” That only made me respect him even more.

I couldn’t give Joe an easy night, as I was hoping to, but things could’ve gotten a lot worse for me if it wasn’t for having such a dedicated, professional, and caring nurse. To end this, I would like to say that Joe is an example of an exceptional nurse.

Joe, I cannot thank you enough.
