Lorna works as a bereavement midwife in the maternity unit of Letterkenny General Hospital. My husband and I unfortunately experienced a very sudden, traumatic stillbirth when I was seven months pregnant. While all the midwifery staff were fantastic, Lorna's care and compassion went above and beyond. This was an extremely difficult time for us, and Lorna's support, both during my two-week stay in hospital and afterwards, has really contributed to my healing journey. There were very difficult pieces of information that needed to be communicated to us, such as funeral details, post-mortems, and medical information, and Lorna's compassionate and clear approach was incredibly important. Being able to continue working with Lorna after the hospital experience was crucial, as I felt she had been with me every step of the way and was able to support me in better understanding my journey. She also offered reflexology on several occasions, which was absolutely superb and helped me regulate my emotions when I couldn't express what I was feeling. While we are still slowly recovering from this event, Lorna has been such a huge source of calmness, kindness, and compassion, and I don't know how we would have managed without her. Lorna and her role have been crucial for me in getting back on my feet and navigating the world again.
