Mihreteab was nominated by a patient whom he cared for and who wrote a beautiful letter for his nomination. The patient was struggling with mental health and dealing with self-care anxiety. Here is just part of the nomination letter:

Mihreteab is a calm, gentle, kind, thoughtful nurse. He soothed my anxiety with a soft sense of humor that encouraged me to focus on myself and to do the work to get better.  As an excellent nurse, Mihreteab shines in my mind like a lantern in the darkest parts of the night. His playful sense of humor, encouragement, and empowerment gave me the nudge I needed to love myself and take control over my health and my life.

Mirhreteab would say things like "You're the boss, R! You tell me what you need, I'm here to help you!"  Mirheteab would give me choices that I did not realize at the time were even choices I could make. He is smart and took care of every single thing I needed as a patient. I didn't need to remind him, or walk on eggshells, because he was having a bad day at work. Mihreteab aced the fundamentals of patients' feelings, dignity, quality of care, comfort, and safety. I will forever be grateful to have known such a wonderful caregiver. He brought humanity back to healthcare for me.
