I want to nominate this nurse for being the best example of a compassionate leader who works in the best interest of both staff and patients.

When I came to work for my scheduled shift, I was immediately met with the situation where the family of a hospice patient was upset. They wanted to be discharged and transported home, which seemed unlikely due to multiple barriers, including the time of night.

I reached out to this nurse, and she stepped in front of this situation for me so that I could also continue to do my work as a CNC. She contacted the consulting doctor so a discharge could be placed. And just when we were losing hope on ambulance transport, she used her knowledge of case management and resources to get this family the outcome they wanted after a long day. This family, who were understandably upset with everyone, gave us hugs before they left.

She is always this helpful, she is cool under pressure and works hard to make sure we have the things that we need, and she is not afraid to be hands-on or step in when staff need more support. She is humble enough not to want anything or praise for all that she does, but she definitely deserves it.
