A few months ago, we had a pediatric patient whom this nurse assisted her fellow nurse in getting IV access and monitoring until the life flight team arrived.
I have worked with this nurse for the past 6 years as a physician. You have your go-to nurse; it's often not fair to them, but they have been there, and you know them. They have been there through staffing changes and through new staff coming on. This nurse has taught staff the nuances of night shift, the team atmosphere, and she guides staff on difficult IVs, difficult patients, and difficult situations like patient elopements and disruptive behaviors. They have, on more than one occasion, alerted me to patient clinical deterioration. I had an elderly lady with chest pain and radiation to the back. They helped the patient remain calm and kept her comfortable while tending to the family's concerns, and we agreed to transfer for aortic dissections. A few months ago, we had a pediatric patient whom this nurse assisted her fellow nurse in getting IV access and monitoring until the life flight team arrived. This nurse is a great charge nurse and is great at guiding coworkers through difficult patients and critical care. They help new grads with documentation and learning the department with patience. If you asked for a great coworker and nurse to take care of patients, this would be that nurse!
