I know I speak for all NICU parents when I say that the kindness and compassion of the nurse caring for your baby makes all the difference, especially during such an emotionally difficult time.
Kristine Fungo had my son as her patient several times during our weeks in the NICU, and although I wish we could have had her every single day, I want to take a few minutes to express my gratitude and recognize this wonderful nurse.
The days my son was assigned to Kristine, I felt extra comfortable leaving the hospital to get some rest. Knowing he was in her care gave me true peace of mind. The time I spent at the bedside, or holding my baby on the days we had Kristine, was more comfortable and more special, thanks entirely to her.
I know I speak for all NICU parents when I say that the kindness and compassion of the nurse caring for your baby makes all the difference, especially during such an emotionally difficult time. Kristine was easy to talk to, made us feel comfortable asking questions, and validated every concern with respect and empathy.
I also couldn’t help but notice how hardworking and proactive she was. For example, when she realized my son’s crib was missing a screw, she immediately called to request a replacement. When the new crib arrived, she happily transferred all of his belongings and organized everything neatly underneath.
Another time, on my son’s bath day, she went above and beyond to make the experience memorable. She suggested a time that would allow us to bathe him without feeling rushed. Then, while gathering supplies, she also approached the volunteer guitarist and kindly asked if she could play for us during the bath. The guitarist was so happy to play, and it made the moment beautiful and calming, something I will never forget.
The world truly needs more people like Kristine Fungo, and having her at Lucile Packard Children’s Hospital makes this hospital even more special. I hope you can share this feedback with her, because she deserves to know how incredible she is and what a difference she makes.
