It’s difficult to put into words the impact Lexy had on both her patient and the family during one of the most heartbreaking situations a nurse can face. That morning, after leaving our patient’s room, we both had an unshakable feeling that something wasn’t right. Despite initial tests coming back negative, Lexy trusted her instincts and refused to back down.

She advocated fiercely for our young patient, making calls, pushing for answers, and demanding further evaluation, even in the face of resistance. Her advocacy was relentless because she knew that this little girl needed more. Although tragically, our patient passed the next day. Lexy's commitment did not end there. The following day, Lexy shifted her focus entirely to the family. With compassion, grace, and extraordinary strength, she created a peaceful, beautiful bereavement experience for the grieving parents.

She was there physically, emotionally, and wholeheartedly for them, offering comfort on what was likely the worst day of their lives. What was most remarkable was Lexy's ability to be such a steady presence for others while silently carrying her own grief. Her bravery, empathy, and dedication in those moments showed the very heart of nursing. On that day, Lexy embodied everything I aspire to be in this profession. She is a shining example of what it means to be a nurse, and our unit is incredibly lucky to have her. The world truly needs more nurses like Lexy.
