I just wanted to take the time to tell you about Lauren. She took the time to come from M/B to OBED for a patient that I had who presented with C/O fever. When I saw that, I instantly thought COVID, but upon triaging her, her complaints were more PP/breast engorgement related. I talked to her about a POC and got an electric pump for her to use while she was with us.
I called for lactation, but they were unavailable. So, I called back to M/B prior to the patient going home as a last-ditch effort to get her something lined up with breastfeeding support. Lauren came to the rescue. Not only did she bring a manual pump, but she also gave the patient instructions and phone numbers of whom to call on Monday to possibly rent an electric one.
The patient spoke Arabic, so her sister interpreted for us. Lauren was so detailed and patient with the language barrier. I, as a nurse, feel like we don't get enough "thanks", but more of an "I need, I need," so I just wanted to give her recognition and let her know that I appreciate her stopping what she was doing to come and help me.
This is a difficult time that we are going through right now, but thanks, Lauren, for stopping and sharing a pickle!
