Had Edward not cared and paid attention, and followed protocol to the letter, I would not be here today
I shouldn’t have survived. I came to the emergency department in an ambulance. I live three minutes away, but I was so sick. I could not walk down the stairs. As soon as I entered the emergency department, I was seen by a nurse, Edward. He saved my life. He followed sepsis protocols to the letter, and I was immediately placed on drips of various broad-spectrum antibiotics, such as Vancomycin and Zosyn. Unbeknownst to me, a few weeks before, when I had a colonoscopy, the sites where two polyps were removed became severely infected. By the time Edward saw me in the ED, I had abscesses in my abdomen. He advocated for me when the CT department didn’t get me scanned in a timely manner. He came down to CT to check on me and give me pain medication as I waited, and made sure my husband was by my side. I was in the emergency department until I was rushed into emergency surgery the following morning. Had Edward not cared and paid attention, and followed protocol to the letter, I would not be here today. I owe my life to him.
