Portia was my daughter’s nurse during the birth of her second child. Portia has a calm, kind demeanor. She took the time to answer all of our questions during the induction process and delivery. My daughter’s active birth went very fast after Pitocin was given. Portia kept my daughter and me calm throughout the delivery.

We had several disturbing incidents, and Portia remained professional to both those involved and us. Portia de-escalated the situation, and I will never be able to thank her enough for that. Having her in the room that night was a Godsend. Without her, I see my daughter’s delivery going much differently. Even with the negative experience, Portia made up for it.

I ran into Portia a few days later in the hospital when my daughter was admitted for high blood pressure post-delivery. Portia remembered us and asked if it was okay if she came by to say hello to my daughter. As a mother, it is so touching to see a nurse care so much about her patients that she would take a few extra minutes out of her busy day to stop in. This is another example of why Portia is so special!

 Thank you, Portia, for being so kind, caring, supportive, and just all around amazing! I will forever remember her, and she will always have a special place in my heart for taking such amazing care of my daughter. She is definitely in the right field! Portia is a true example of what the DAISY award stands for.
