Stacy knew prayer was important to me, and as a nurse who cares about the whole person, she consistently prayed with me before each infusion.
I have come to refer to Stacy as my angel in scrubs.
A cancer diagnosis is scary and overwhelming. Sitting in the infusion chair for chemotherapy was frightening and surreal for me. Then I met a ray of sunshine named Stacy Curtis. Stacy is the perfect mix of knowledge, professionalism, compassion, encouragement, joy, and empathy. I had a few hiccups during several of my infusions. I was scared. Stacy remained calm and reassuring. She patiently walked me through the changes to my meds and stayed by my side until I was confident things were ok.
I sensed we shared the same faith. Stacy knew prayer was important to me, and as a nurse who cares about the whole person, she consistently prayed with me before each infusion. This meant the world to me. Stacy patiently listened to my symptom report before each infusion, some physical and some emotional. She offered medical solutions to ease many of my physical symptoms and offered words of affirmation and empathy for what I was going through emotionally.
Her care for me was unmistakable. I love that even in the midst of such a difficult time, Stacy would bring laughter and joy to me and anyone who came with me to treatment. Every person who accompanied me commented on how I was clearly in good hands. My family having more peace because of Stacy's care for me was a precious gift to me.
Going through chemotherapy was one of the most difficult things I've done in my life. Stacy provided me with excellent medical care and also provided me with mental, emotional, and spiritual care just by being herself. I am so blessed that our paths crossed and that I got to know such an incredible person. What she does and who she is truly made a profound impact on my life. Stacy is most worthy of recognition and being honored with the DAISY Award.
