Heather's persistence and quick remote assessment are credited with saving her AUM's life.
On a Tuesday, Heather noticed that her Assistant Unit Manager had not shown up for work, which she considered highly irregular. Heather was concerned, so she immediately called the AUM's phone. The only response was a garbled noise. Heather was very worried by this and attempted to call the AUM's family, but there was no emergency contact listed. She sought further information by calling Human Resources, hoping they had a phone number she could try.
Heather could not ignore her intuition and reached out to the local police department to request a wellness check. The police were not able to enter due to a locked gate. Still, Heather persisted as her worry continued to increase. Eventually, she was able to reach her AUM's daughter, who went to the house.
The missing AUM was found unconscious on the floor and was immediately transported via ambulance. Shortly thereafter, emergency surgery was performed, and the outcome remains pending. Heather's persistence and quick remote assessment are credited with saving her AUM's life. Heather is being recognized for her critical thinking, persistence, empathy, and for doing the "right thing".
