Meghan stayed over on her shift, not knowing how long it would be before I delivered, just to be there to hold my sweet baby boy when he passed.
I don't think there is an award big enough for what Meghan did for my family and me. I ended up in her care in the late hours of the night/early hours of the evening. I was unexpectedly rushed up to Labor and Delivery from the high-risk floor to be monitored to see if I was going into preterm labor. Labor and Delivery was so full that I was in a private area of L&D where Meghan was working. From the time I got there, she was caring and compassionate and was there to help in whatever way she could. When the pain of the contractions became unbearable, she made sure I was able to get my epidural quickly and kept me updated on the status of the doctor coming to check on me. Since we weren't in a room with a couch or comfy chair, she advised my husband to go to our normal room to get some rest, and she would call him within the next few hours to make sure he was awake, which she did.
When my first son, B, was delivered, she was there to hold my hand and make sure that I had everything I needed to feel comfortable and be supported. After B was delivered, we weren't sure how long it was going to be before my second son, N, would be coming, and it was time for a shift change. Meghan came in to let me know that she wished she could stay, but her shift was over, so she introduced me to my new nurses, prayed over me, and left. I thought that would be the last time I would see her, but that was not the case.
Once my second son, N, was delivered, the nurses came in to check on me and let me know that my sweet B had passed, and their words were, "N is here with us and is being held by the best nurse that we have, Meghan." I looked at them and said, "Meghan?! My nurse from last night/this morning?" They said yes. I immediately broke down and cried. Later, after he had passed, in walks Meghan. The first words that came out of her mouth were, "You did so good, Mom, your boys were absolutely beautiful." She sat with me for a bit, we both cried, then she gave me the biggest hug, and prayed over me.
Meghan stayed over on her shift, not knowing how long it would be before I delivered, just to be there to hold my sweet baby boy when he passed. She is so selfless and did something that she didn't have to do; she stayed over her shift just to be there for my husband, myself, and my sons. I could never thank her enough for the kindness and compassion she showed us in the most emotional time of our lives. She went above and beyond for us. Meghan deserves all of the recognition and then some for her kindness and compassion.
