Rachel listens with understanding and responds with clarity
It is with great enthusiasm that I nominate Rachel Hellmann for the DAISY Nurse Leader Award. Rachel exemplifies GBMC’s vision every day: “To every patient, every time, we will provide the care that we would want for our own loved ones.” Her leadership, compassion, and unwavering commitment to excellence make her a role model not only within the division but across the entire organization.

Rachel consistently goes above and beyond the expectations of her role. She is a leader who embodies the G.R.E.A.T.E.R. behavior of respect, earning the trust and admiration of staff throughout GBMC. She is known for her fairness, empathy, and professionalism, especially when addressing concerns or guiding others through complex processes. Rachel listens with understanding and responds with clarity, ensuring that every stakeholder feels heard, supported, and informed.

Rachel’s ability to manage multiple high-priority projects while remaining calm, composed, and solution-focused is exceptional. She advocates for process improvements rooted in comprehensive, objective data and the most current evidence-based practices. Her recent completion of a Doctor of Nursing Practice (DNP) degree is a testament to her dedication to both personal and professional growth.

She is a creative and innovative problem-solver who navigates ambiguity with confidence and agility. Rachel quickly identifies what matters most and drives timely, effective resolutions. Her attention to detail and commitment to high-quality outcomes have significantly contributed to the success of our division. She is a collaborative leader who builds strong, effective teams not only within the division but across the organization. One example of this is her partnership with the surgeon's office staff, ensuring they understand the surgical case posting process and have the resources needed for success.

In addition to her operational responsibilities, Rachel is a mentor to both new and seasoned staff. She is often seen coaching others, sharing her knowledge, and fostering a culture of continuous improvement. Her leadership has cultivated a team that is engaged, informed, and open to embracing new processes.

This year, Rachel has worked tirelessly to support our teams in areas such as safety, policy, protocol, regulation, and scope of work. She does this through open communication, mentorship, and coaching. Her peers consistently describe her as trustworthy, dependable, and always available.

Rachel Hellmann is a highly effective, adaptable, and visionary nurse leader. Her contributions have had a profound impact on our team, our patients, and the broader GBMC community. She is truly deserving of the DAISY Nurse Leader Award.
