Amanda caught my baby and took care of us until my doctor ran in a few minutes later.
I walked into my scheduled induction day both excited and apprehensive, giving myself mental pep talks that I could advocate for the delivery I hoped for, and hoping negative past experiences wouldn't recur. As a nurse myself, in a different specialty, I knew I was walking in with high standards for the quality of my care. I can honestly say, I didn't think my expectations would be exceeded. But they undoubtedly were!
Amanda came into my delivery room with a friendly face, a palpable positive attitude, a strong ability to make connections, and a genuine passion for what she does. She helped get me settled in with snacks, linens and informed me of the next steps to prepare for beginning induction. Her attention to detail allowed her to notice and address my needs before even being asked. Her clinical knowledge and experience were very apparent to me early on. She was trained in starting IVs with the ultrasound machine and was able to obtain access on the first stick. This was a big deal to me after being stuck 6 times for a previous delivery. Since she knew I wanted a natural birth, she took care to place my IV in a location that would allow me to move around and change positions more easily.
She was very willing to explain aspects of the fetal monitoring that I was unfamiliar with and answered every question I had. I could tell her critical thinking skills were top-notch as we worked together to implement needed interventions, based on the fetal monitoring and the needs of both my baby and myself in the process.
In addition to being an extraordinary nurse, despite her prompt and frequent communication with my OBGYN, my delivery transitioned very quickly. I ended up giving birth to my baby before either my doctor or the ER doctor could make it to my room. Amanda caught my baby and took care of us until my doctor ran in a few minutes later.
