Destiny demonstrated extraordinary dedication and empathy when caring for a patient who arrived from the airport with acute pain and nausea. The patient, unable to fly back home, was brought to the Emergency Department via EMS. Although the ED physician offered admission for observation, they couldn’t guarantee discharge in time for a potential flight the next day. Recognizing the patient’s distress and need for a safe place to stay, Destiny took it upon herself to research local hotels — all while managing a full patient load and adjusting to her new role post-orientation.

Drawing on her previous experience working in hospitality, Destiny used her knowledge to secure a good rate and ensure the patient had a comfortable overnight option. She went further by helping the patient navigate Uber, ensuring they could safely reach the hotel despite being unfamiliar with the app. Destiny’s initiative, resourcefulness, and compassion went far beyond clinical duties, reflecting a deep commitment to holistic patient care. Her actions exemplify the values of our ED team and serve as a model of excellence in patient advocacy.
