Because of Alex, I don't just feel like I'm surviving orientation. I feel like I'm becoming the kind of nurse I always hoped to be.
Starting out as a new nurse is intimidating, but having Alex as my preceptor changed everything for me. From the first shift, she created a safe space where I could learn without fear of judgment. She reminded me that questions aren't a weakness; they are a sign of growth. And she answered every single one with patience and encouragement.
Alex never just told me what to do; she explained why it mattered. She connected each skill and decision back to the bigger picture of patient care, which made me feel empowered instead of overwhelmed. Even on the busiest days, she never made me feel like a burden. She has a gift for balancing her own responsibilities while still guiding me step by step.
What really sets Alex apart is how she cares for both patients and her team. When I doubted myself after a tough shift, she pulled me aside and reminded me that being a good nurse isn't about being perfect. It's about showing up with compassion, humility, and heart. That encouragement kept me from giving up on myself.
Because of Alex, I don't just feel like I'm surviving orientation. I feel like I'm becoming the kind of nurse I always hoped to be. She embodies what the DAISY Award represents: clinical excellence paired with kindness, mentorship, and a true passion for nursing. I'm proud to be her colleague, and even prouder to nominate her for this award.
