She did whatever she could to encourage and support me.
I came into L&D triage after having checked my blood pressure at work and getting a reading of 170/111. I was only 32 weeks and 5 days pregnant. After having been kept overnight, it was determined that I needed to stay for my baby’s safety due to pre-eclampsia, so I was moved to the postpartum unit. I was to remain inpatient for 11 days, until I could reach at least 34 weeks pregnant. This meant that I would have to deliver my baby preterm. I was in total shock and feeling depressed at the thought of spending the holiday in the hospital, not able to go anywhere, and ultimately having to deliver a preterm baby to the NICU. Mallory was my night shift nurse for almost the entirety of my stay, and to say she changed my experience and worked to help me remain positive for my baby's and my health is an understatement. She went above and beyond, took the extra time to talk with me in my room about how I was feeling and what to expect nightly, helped me get excited listening to his heartbeat by talking to him sweetly while trying to find him with the Doppler every night, and took the time to write positive messages on the board in my room. She did whatever she could to encourage and support me. Any time I had a question or a fear, Mallory stopped what she was doing, sat with me, and worked to make sure she helped resolve the fear with me. If she didn’t know the answer herself, she was sure to find out for me. Mallory truly was such a blessing and the epitome of a caring nurse with a patient-centered mindset. I felt that she made it her mission to ensure I was and felt well taken care of. I truly felt like she embodied the “we care” motto that is chosen to represent Forrest General.
