It's that type of consistent and passionate commitment to pediatric behavioral health patients that makes Ashley an incredible role model of Intermountain's values.
Ashley exudes passion for caring for kids with mental health issues. She has worked tirelessly to ensure the new behavioral health inpatient unit at Primary Children's - Lehi is safe. She left no detail unattended. One day, she even used a file to round the sharp edges of hallway signs so patients couldn't cut themselves. Ashley is a leader and has set the same tone for all behavioral health caregivers at Primary Children's - Lehi. Safety is paramount! And even though safety in behavioral health means paying attention to different types of details or working together through different types of challenges, Ashley is persistent and transparent about what safety means and looks like in behavioral health settings.

Ashley is a leader and sets the tone for the team of behavioral health caregivers at Primary Children's - Lehi, as well as for the hospital overall, on the importance of safety, inclusion, and teamwork centered around pediatric behavioral health patients. She works hard every day to make sure behavioral health patients are not spoken about or treated as "other." That includes ensuring caregivers are trained and supported in safely caring for behavioral health patients. That also includes consistently using inclusive language. When caregivers from other teams or departments have toured or visited the behavioral health areas, it's not uncommon to hear "othering" language. One time a clinical caregiver touring the new unit said "I can't imagine working with those patients", and Ashley passionately replied, "I can't imagine working with any patients other than these patients." It's that type of consistent and passionate commitment to pediatric behavioral health patients that makes Ashley an incredible role model of Intermountain's values.

Ashley is committed to making sure mental health is health. There are unique challenges to leading a behavioral health team, and Ashley is always educating, supporting, and advocating that, despite unique challenges, behavioral health patients, departments, and caregivers are part of Intermountain's mission, too.
