I felt it necessary to say how important and impactful Kristy was throughout this ordeal.
It all started in the very early hours of a Sunday morning. My father fell during the night while trying to get up to go to the bathroom, breaking his right femur.
After his fall that night, we started in the ER at St. Martin Ochsner, and then he was transferred to Ochsner Ortho when they realized it was a fracture. From there, we were transferred to Lafayette Rehab with the hope of rehabilitating that fracture without surgery.
Our stay there quickly turned into something much more than just a fracture. We ended up at Ochsner Lafayette General. This whole ordeal quickly became a very emotional roller coaster. Life and death decisions needed to be made. I met Kristy on the first day my father was admitted. She was nice, professional, and we went through his history, etc., and our goals (which were to get him to a swing bed for rehab). That continued to be our goal throughout all this up and down, because we knew in our hearts, he would not be happy at home being completely dependent on others.
While I was going through all of this emotional turmoil, Kristy was right there providing her gentle guidance and support. She understood how hard this was for me and honestly was my rock while I was there. I had her cell number and would call or text her frequently. She always responded and was there for me. She helped me focus on different options so that my decisions became clearer and easier. I knew in my heart what we needed to do. The last day was brutal for me. Again, things became fuzzy, and I was faced with more decisions whether to keep him there or send him home.
During another emotional meltdown in the sitting area outside his room, I looked up, and there was Kristy. I cried and told her how hard this was and how I was again torn.
In her gentle, caring Kristy way, she calmly talked me through the latest scenario and what the different options looked like. Once again, the decision became clearer to me about what was best for him and what we needed to do. Kristy helped me to be at peace with our decision.
Once the decision was made, Kristy went into action to make it all happen in the timeframe that we could accommodate. I had a million things to do to get ready for him to come home in this state. She coordinated with everyone to get everything done and kept me posted on things I needed to know. He is home now, and things are still not easy, but I know in my heart that we are where we need to be, and I am completely at peace, and he is happy and content to be home.
I felt it necessary to say how important and impactful Kristy was throughout this ordeal. I seriously could not have made it through all of this without her compassion and expertise.
