Her presence was calm and grounding, and her kindness felt effortless and unwavering.
As both a nurse and a recent patient, I've experienced healthcare from both sides of the bed - and I can say without hesitation that Brooke is one of the most extraordinary nurses I've ever encountered. Though she is new to the profession, she carries the heart and soul of someone who's been doing this for decades.

During my stay, I was vulnerable in ways I hadn't anticipated. Knowing what amazing care looks like, I was very nervous for my first time on the other side. Let's be honest, not all care is provided "equally". It's humbling to be on the receiving end of care when you're used to providing it. But from the moment Brooke entered my room, I felt safe, seen, and genuinely cared for. She didn't just check boxes, she connected. Her presence was calm and grounding, and her kindness felt effortless and unwavering.
The moment that stood out most to me was how she made me feel as if I were the only patient she had. In a busy unit, with countless demands pulling her in every direction, she never once made me feel like a task or a time slot. She was fully present, listening, responding, and caring with a depth that made me feel truly valued. That kind of attentiveness is rare, and it meant more than I can express.

Even as alarms rang and call lights blinked across the unit, Brooke chose to walk us out to the car instead of making us wait for the very busy CNA. We were more than capable of seeing ourselves out. Things get chaotic, and the last thing you need is to add another task, especially one that can easily be delegated. That simple act of kindness and thoughtfulness made a lasting impression - it showed how deeply she cares, not just about clinical tasks, but about the human experience of her patients.
What makes her truly remarkable is her humility. She may not have all the knowledge or wisdom yet, but she never pretended to. Instead, she asked questions and collaborated with the previous floor I was on. I knew she wanted to ensure she would obtain exactly what I needed. That curiosity and openness will only continue to grow her expertise, and it's a quality that sets her apart even now.

I've worked alongside seasoned nurses for years, and I can confidently say that Brooke has the spirit of the most experienced among us. She is a gift to this profession.

A little goes a long way, Brooke. When the days are long and tough, and you doubt every single decision you've ever made in your life, know there are fellow nurses out there feeling exactly the same way. Making connections and networking makes you more valuable and innovative in this ever-changing career. Please stay true to yourself. Feel free to reach out if you ever have a day you need to talk or vent it out. I will always be an unbiased listener.
