She was with my brother when he passed, which meant the world to me.
On behalf of myself and our family, I wanted to take a moment to thank you for being with my brother John when he went to see the Lord and our parents in heaven. We were able to spend hours with him off the ventilator, to which he opened his eyes to us and acknowledged he did not want any more medical intervention. At this time, we got to play some of his favorite music and his NASCAR hat that he wore for the very last time. We got to kiss him goodbye.
After this correspondence, nurse Jessica wrote, "I had the great honor of being with John in his final moments. As nurses, we can look at a monitor and tell when someone is about to pass. I did not want him to pass alone, so I stepped into the room and placed my hand on John and said a prayer for him. I was there when he took his last breath, and I did have music playing for him in the background. It was very peaceful, and he was not in any pain. Please take comfort knowing he was not alone in his last moments. I am very sorry for your loss, as John seemed like he was very blessed to be loved by you and his family. As an ICU nurse, I hope that my being with him has provided some comfort to you in this difficult time. I will keep you, your family, and John in my prayers during this time of healing. Thank you for reaching out, as it means a lot to hear from families.”
Jessica is a nurse who played a key role in the beautiful care of my brother. She was with my brother when he passed, which meant the world to me. To know that he was not alone, she was there when I couldn't be. Tears are flowing down my face as I read nurse Jessica’s message. The kindness Jessica showed and compassion are immeasurable. I will always be truly grateful.
