The DAISY Award holds such deep meaning to nurses because it recognizes the heart behind the profession- the compassion, dedication, and resilience that so often go unseen but make the biggest difference in the lives of patients, families, and colleagues. It is a way of honoring those who embody the true spirit of nursing and consistently go above and beyond, even in the most challenging circumstances. I am honored to nominate Lauren for the DAISY Award.

As a Pediatric Resource Pool nurse, she demonstrates an unwavering commitment to excellence with every shift she works. No matter where she is assigned, she approaches her work with a positive attitude, a willingness to help, and a calm, professional presence that immediately makes a difference.

While there are many stories from each shift about how Lauren comes to save the day, one recent day stands out most clearly to me. We had a full unit, I as the charge nurse was in ratio and awaiting a new admission. Our unit had an unstable patient who was beginning to experience a code event. As charge, I could not leave my coworker’s or this patient’s side during this critical moment. Without hesitation, Lauren came over from another unit to pick up my assignment. At that moment I did not have time to give her a full report as there was no time. The moment I heard it was Lauren stepping in, I knew those patients were in good hands. I could fully trust her to step into a difficult situation, seamlessly fill in the gaps, and provide the highest quality care.

Lauren’s influence extends far beyond one shift. Her name is mentioned daily by peers and providers as a vital part of the pediatric resource pool and the pediatric patient population as a whole. She is recognized as someone who can be relied upon in any circumstance, no matter how busy or unpredictable the day becomes. Her ability to step into chaos with composure and competence is what sets her apart. She consistently goes above and beyond her responsibilities, stepping in to support her peers and patients alike. Whether charge nurses are in ratio, assignments are unexpectedly shifted, or units are especially busy, she never hesitates to lend a hand. Her flexibility, teamwork, and dependable nature embody the qualities every hospital hopes for in a nurse.
