She even went above and beyond by printing copies of my dad’s heartbeat from the monitor for our family to keep.
Kiki was my dad’s nurse during his final days in the ICU, and her care made an overwhelming experience a little more bearable for our family. When my mom brought my dad to the ER, we had no idea he would never be leaving the hospital. He stayed in the ICU for nearly two weeks, and it was an incredibly stressful time.
From the start, Kiki explained everything she was doing and why, with the kind of patience, clarity, and compassion we desperately needed. She spoke to my mom and me with empathy and kindness, making sure we understood each step and knew we could ask anything. She ensured my dad was comfortable, we were supported, and that our questions were always welcomed.
When we made the difficult decision to move my dad to comfort care, Kiki walked us through every single step. She even went above and beyond by printing copies of my dad’s heartbeat from the monitor for our family to keep. Later, when we transitioned to palliative/hospice care, Kiki continued to check on us, showing her dedication wasn’t limited to the hospital.
Her compassion, guidance, and dedication during one of the hardest times in our lives meant the world to us. Kiki exemplifies the extraordinary care and humanity that the DAISY Award celebrates.
