My favorite thing she did was having the forethought of taking pictures for us with him in some of his final moments.
Emma went above and beyond what my sister and I could have expected out of a nurse. Our uncle was in the ICU, unconscious, so we had to make some very big life decisions for him. Emma was there through the whole process of coming to a conclusion that would potentially help, but also follow his wishes.
While my 8-year-old niece was in the room with us, Emma talked and joked around with her to keep her company while we worked through and tried to process this difficult time. At one point, we had a doctor who was very soft spoken and hard to hear. Emma knew that we didn't fully hear him, so after he left, she went over everything he had said so we had a full grasp on our uncle's health situation.
When we came to the decision to put our uncle into Hospice to have a safe and painless passing, she was there to comfort us. She was also there to explain how the transition would work. She helped make it possible to fulfill our uncle's last wishes for a pop and one final cigarette before we got a room in hospice.
My favorite thing she did was having the forethought of taking pictures for us with him in some of his final moments. Pictures that we would not have thought to take if it were not for her. We are very thankful and very grateful for all that she has done. Not only for our uncle, but also for us during our time in the ICU.
