SGMC Health proudly recognizes Brittni Harvey, RN, as the December DAISY Award recipient for extraordinary nursing. Harvey, who has served SGMC Health for 7.5 years, currently works in the staffing pool, supporting medical/surgical units at SGMC Health Main. She was nominated by a Valdosta State University nursing student who trained alongside her for fifteen 12-hour shifts.

As a preceptor, Harvey exemplified leadership and teamwork, inspiring the student through hands-on guidance. The nomination praised her approach: “She showed me what it truly means to be a team leader, a team player, and a compassionate nurse. Leadership isn’t about giving orders from afar—it’s about working side by side with others.”

One memorable moment occurred when a patient passed during their shift. Harvey handled the situation with grace, teaching the student that nursing care extends beyond life: “She taught me how to perform post-mortem care gently, preserving dignity and honoring life. I learned nursing is not only about caring for the living but also about offering compassion and respect in the final moments.”
