My son was admitted to Paddington ward, and the first face we saw was Maddie. From the get-go, he felt so comfortable in her care. She has been fantastic with reassurance, kindness, taking the time to explain everything in detail, and allowing my son to ask questions whilst medicating or taking obs.

It was his first hospital experience, and he was being assessed by various surgeons, registrars, consultants, and teams. Maddie was our single point of reference, and for each instance, she had all the information to hand. Given how busy the ward was at times, she was looking after 6 patients at a time. She still remained on top of it all and, most importantly, very calm and reassuring. She is always coming in with a big smile.

On occasions, I had to leave my son whilst I attended to matters outside of the hospital, and my son felt very comfortable under Maddie’s care. My son’s comfort was her priority, and she offered options when available. We always looked forward to seeing her at 7:15 am every morning when her shift started. When you have had the experience of a shift change, you can certainly spot the ones that stand out from the rest, and Maddie 100% did for us!

Everyone has their own experience of the NHS. For us, Maddie has raised that bar and made us an even stronger supporter of the NHS! Thank you, Maddie.
