No matter how challenging or busy a day she might be having, Val will always make time to talk—or, more often, listen—to us, and try to think of ways to help or support us in difficult times.
Valerie Currier is dedicated to caring for children with cancer and their families, offering compassion at every interaction. With her extensive experience with this patient population, Valerie understands the workflow of her team and can easily jump into patient care to fill gaps in care coordination, medication safety checks, and insurance authorization challenges.
Valerie supports her team and encourages their professional development through participation in relevant nursing organizations, certifications, and conference presentations. What is also apparent is the mutual respect between Valerie and her team. Staff share many examples that reflect an open-door policy, an attentiveness to concerns, and an understanding and support of the nurses as individuals.
One nurse shared, "Val is easily the best supervisor I have had in all of my 30 years of working life. I have always felt trusted and respected by her, and I know she has great trust and respect for every member of our team. Her attitude is one that I find to be sadly rare among supervisors in general, but in Val’s case, it is genuine, and it has the effect of bringing out our best. She advocates for us and supports us both professionally and personally.
She clearly wants us all to succeed at doing our best work, but also understands the necessity and importance of finding the (often extremely elusive) balance between work and our families and personal lives—because she, too, struggles to find that balance. No matter how challenging or busy a day she might be having, Val will always make time to talk—or, more often, listen—to us, and try to think of ways to help or support us in difficult times. She is exceptionally compassionate and very resourceful, and those are two of the biggest compliments I can give to anyone. Val is an excellent supervisor who leads by example and is just a lovely person. I really look up to her, and I consider myself lucky to be a part of her team."
Another nurse wrote, "I believe Valerie is the 'picture' John Quincy Adams painted when he wrote, 'If your actions inspire others to dream more, learn more, do more, become more, you are a leader. True leadership involves inspiring others to reach their full potential. Through her exceptional skills as a leader, Valerie shares our mission."
