. She turned a very stressful time into a more comforting one.
My husband was transferred from PCU to 3 Meadows in order to be discharged home on a Sunday to hospice. It all happened so quickly, and I was just devastated. My niece, who is an RN, stayed overnight with him on Friday. She was amazed at the fabulous care Olivia provided, her attention to detail, and her assessment of my husband's needs.
He was pretty much unresponsive, but she always addressed him by his name, each time she did something or gave him medications. He was well on his way to a peaceful transition. Saturday, the day shift brought a whole other level of challenges and undermedication. It was very upsetting and frustrating to say the least. We struggled with the staff on his morphine level all day, as we knew that he was not as comfortable as he could be.
Olivia returned at night for another shift. She assessed him and discussed it with another RN and the charge nurse. They started the process of greater comfort measures. My niece called my sister, who is also an RN and well-versed in end-of-life care, and told her to bring me back to the hospital. My sister, my son, my daughter, and my niece spent the night at his bedside. Olivia not only took the best care of him, coming in and checking him every 15-20 minutes, but she also kept asking if there was anything that we, the family, needed. She turned a very stressful time into a more comforting one.
My husband passed away peacefully around 11:00 am, and I know that he did so in peace because of Olivia’s actions, and he was surrounded by love. She is a fantastic, compassionate, and skilled nurse whom I will be forever grateful to.
