Janette Acord was my PACU nurse. I had some trouble waking up from general anesthesia. My muscles surrounding my vocal cords went into spasms, closing my airways, leaving me gasping for air, and completely terrified. Janette knew exactly what was happening and jumped into action, holding my neck in a certain way to help open my airway, all while talking me down from a full-on panic attack. The calmness of her voice telling me I was ok, and to breathe slowly through my nose and exhale through my mouth, kept me from panicking. After what felt like an hour, but was probably just a minute or two, I was finally able to breathe normally. I suffer from laryngospasms. Every time it happens, it feels like I am dying. I literally struggle with everything; I have to gasp for the smallest amount of air, and it never gets easier. Each time is just as terrifying as the last. I cannot thank Janette enough for the professional and calm way she handled my situation. Everyone was amazing during my visit, but Janette played a crucial role, and I am so thankful for her.
