She is a guardian angel, walking among us to guide those in need.
Christine, our Guardian Angel in Rhode Island. Some people are placed in our lives like beacons in the storm. Christine is one of them. When my son J, a young athlete recruited by The University of Rhode Island, left Montreal full of hope, we never imagined the ordeal waiting for him. Just three days after his arrival on campus, a vicious bacterial infection attacked his body. The antibiotics failed. Within days, his condition worsened, and he was admitted to Rhode Island Hospital; his face unrecognizable, ravaged by the infection. For almost ten agonizing days in intensive care, our world stood still. That is when Christine entered his life, and ours. From the moment she took over J’s care, I felt an inexplicable calm, even from hundreds of miles away. Her treatments were meticulous, despite the pain they caused. She ensured he could eat, blending his meals and preparing protein shakes, as swallowing was impossible. But Christine did far more than her medical duty. My son had just finished treatment for severe acne when this infection disfigured his face. Humiliated, terrified, he had lost all confidence. Christine was there, every step of the way, reassuring him. Her visits, day or night, were a constant in the chaos. On her days off, J seemed to struggle more, as if her presence alone gave him the strength to fight. She was his rock, his emotional anchor, his unwavering ally. And without realizing it, she also cared for us, his family scattered between Canada and Europe, helpless from afar. Because of her, we could breathe, hope, and believe in his recovery. Christine isn’t just a nurse. She is a guardian angel, walking among us to guide those in need. Today, J stands healed; a recovery we owe, in no small measure, to her ten days of relentless devotion in that ICU. Thank you, Christine Medeiros, for being our light in the darkest of nights. You carried us through the storm when we could barely breathe. We love you; we bless you, and we will forever owe you more than words could ever express.
