What makes Sherry exceptional is her constant presence both for patients and staff. She doesn’t lead from behind a desk; she is out on the units every day.
Sherry Camacho is truly a nurse’s nurse. She leads with integrity, compassion, accountability, respect, and excellence in everything she does. Her leadership is not only visionary but also deeply grounded in the core values of nursing, with over 2,000 nurses.
Over the past two years, Sherry has consistently raised the bar on patient care at Methodist Hospital. Through her guidance and commitment, our teams have strengthened their focus on telemetry monitoring, reduced hospital-acquired infections, and elevated the overall patient experience.
What makes Sherry exceptional is her constant presence both for patients and staff. She doesn’t lead from behind a desk; she is out on the units every day. Sherry rounds with nurses at the bedside, listening to patients and ensuring they are involved in their plan of care. She also rounds with staff, creating moments of connection, encouragement, and support that remind us why we chose nursing.
Sherry is present at every nursing event and makes it a priority to recognize the incredible work of others. Whether it’s celebrating DAISY Award winners, honoring Hummingbird and Sunflower Award recipients, or recognizing a Great Catch that prevented patient harm, Sherry ensures that nurses feel seen, valued, and appreciated. Her heartfelt recognition of others is never routine; it is genuine, personal, and deeply meaningful to those receiving it.
She is also quick to stop and talk with patients during her rounds, asking about their experience and sharing words of reassurance. These small but powerful gestures show patients and families that their voices matter and that they are at the center of their care.
Sherry exemplifies what it means to be a transformational nurse leader. She sets high expectations, but she also gives us the tools, encouragement, and unwavering support to achieve them. Her presence, compassion, and dedication inspire us to be our best and create an environment where patients receive exceptional care and nurses feel proud of the work they do.
